Open call for environmental sound installation: submit your piece for the soundtrack of global warming!
From background noise to disruptive high-pitch, the mechanical humming, buzzing and vibrations of our modern ACs have become the normalized alarm-signal of global warming.
In this collective sound-work, we draw attention to the current alarming pace of weather patterns shifting – starting locally by pointing to the transition from temperate to (sub)tropical climate, but inquiring further about the global scale of our late stage extractivist systems responsible for our predicament.

> What we are looking for:
sound recordings of your powered Air Conditioning unit
Stick a mic in its ventilation hole or get as creative as you wish: experiment with closeness or distance, switch between modes and so on.
Air thrusting, metal/plastic buzzing, evacuation dripping – collect a sound universe or just focus on one.
> Technical requirements:
Nothing too specific:
- any format: wav, mov etc.
- any duration
- any type of recording device may be used: phone recorder or any recording apps for smartphone; professional recorder/ mic; contact microphone.
- no pre-processing, just raw recording
- make sure you get a clean recording: no ambiental or other sound should interfere (turn off any TV, invite the cat to another room etc.)

> How does it work?
After the period of submission, we download and archive all your entries and filter them.
While we strongly hope to use all your samples, please note we reserve the right to decline some, SOLELY on the basis of a really poor audio quality (which we do not expect to receive).
After sound-processing, the samples become part of a sound-art installation to accompany the climate change awareness campaign, shown on our media channels and during public events.
Further on, it is envisioned to be curated as a sound-scape for immersive shows, exhibition events or live performing acts of the collective.
You will receive:
- credits for your contribution in all public appearances of the soundtrack, on & offline
- a copy of the final audio piece (upon request)
